PvP Guide
Player versus Player (PvP) is a core element of Ashes of Creation. Players can engage in PvP in the open world, caravan battles, guild wars, and sieges.
The game will feature a flagging system that will allow players to choose whether or not they want to participate in PvP.
This system is designed to diminish griefing and to encourage meaningful PvP interactions.
The flagging system has three states: Non-Combatant, Combatant, and Corrupted.
Depending of what state you choose to be in, you will have different consequences and benefits.
In the next image, you can see how the flagging system works in Ashes of Creation:
Non-Combatant
Combatant
Corrupted
Non-Combatant
- Non-Combatant players are indentified with a green nameplate.
- Players starts as non-Combatant by default.
- Non-Combatats will not accidentaly hit non-combatant players unless they flag themselves as Combatant.
- Non-Combatant players will not drop any items or lose any experience if they are killed in PvP combat.
- Non-Combatant will convert to Combatant if they loot a non-Corrupted player.
Combatant
- Combatant players are indentified with a purple nameplate.
- Players can flag themselves as Combatant.
- Combatant status lasts for 90 seconds.
- Combatant players can attack other Combatant players without penalty.
- Dying as a Combatant will result in reduced death penalties (the game encourages PvP).
Corrupted
- Corrupted players are indentified with a red nameplate.
- Players become Corrupted if they kill a non-Combatant player.
- Corrupted players suffer many penalties, including a drop of items and experience.
- Corrupted players have a cumulative score (Blight) that tracks their criminal activity and affects how much Corruption they gain from future kills.
- Corrupted players can be attacked by anyone without penalty.
Open World PvP
- Open World PvP includes contesting resources, caravans, guild wars, node wars, and world bosses.
- The majority of the content of the game will be focused on Open World PvP. This is where the game will shine.
Warning!
Some players will try to take advantage of the system by trying to get other players to flag themselves as Combatant, so they can kill them without penalty. Be careful!
Caravan Battles
- Caravans are the primary method of transportation for resources in Ashes of Creation.
- Caravans can be attacked by other players, and the defenders will have to protect the caravan from the attackers.
- Caravan battles will be a big part of the game, and they will be a great way to get resources and to engage in PvP.
Sieges
- Nodes can be sieged by other players.
- When a node is sieged, the attackers will have to destroy the defenses of the node and to kill the defenders to take control of the node.
- Sieges will be a big part of the game, and they will be a great way to show the power of your guild.
